Pointe Saint Mathieu and its surroundings
To the far west in the town of Plougonvelin, the tip stands facing the Iroise Sea. Place for walks and pleasant visits in all seasons where the GR34 and the Iroise marine natural park rub shoulders. The site offers one of the departures for the Compostela paths

To visit on the site
Lighthouse
In the Middle Ages, and for centuries, the monks maintained a fire at the top of the square tower of the abbey. In 1689, a glazed lantern will be installed there.
1831: it took 4 years to build the current lighthouse (June 1835: 1st lighting, 1932: electrification, 1996: automation, 2005: remote control by the Créach lighthouse in Ouessant, 2006: departure of the lighthouse keepers)
The museum
The museum presents a historical exhibition on the settlement of the site, monastic life, the abbey in history, and the role of watchtower of the coast once ensured by the monks. Photos and models detail the architecture of the Gothic building. A 17-minute film “Saint-Mathieu, the abbey at the end of the world” is also shown. In summer, guided tours of the abbey are offered.
The Memorial
The memorial to sailors who died for France is both a national place of remembrance, a place steeped in history, a place of contemplation with the stele, the esplanade of the "French Souvenir" and the crypts of the cenotaph (Monument erected in the memory of a dead person and which does not contain his body.). The development and influence of the memorial are ensured by the association “Aux Marins”.
